Serverless Architecture for Data Processing and Detecting Anomalies with the Mars Express MARSIS Instrument

Abstract The Mars Advanced Radar for Subsurface and Ionosphere Sounding (MARSIS) on board Express has been sampling the topside ionosphere of since mid-2005. analysis main reflection (nadir) through ionograms provided by MARSIS instrument is typically performed manually due to high noise level in lower frequencies. This task, which involves pattern recognition, turns out be unfeasible >2 million available at European Planetary Science Archive. In present contribution, we propose a modular architecture based serverless computing (a paradigm that stands cloud) optimal processing these ionograms. particular, apply detect oblique echoes ionosphere, are nonnadir reflections produced when sounding regions above or nearby crustal magnetic fields, where loses spherical symmetry. Oblique observed similar frequencies nadir but different times delays, sometimes even overlaying reflection. difficult analyze with standard technique their nonconstant highly variable appearance, they harbor essential information state over magnetized regions. this work compare proposed two local alternatives while representative data subset finally provide study means cost performance.
